Standardised empirical dispersal kernels emphasise the pervasiveness of long‐distance dispersal in European birds

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 92, Issue 1, Page 158-170, January 2023., 2023
Introducing a statistical framework to estimate standardised dispersal kernels from biased data. The authors found strong evidence that long‐distance dispersal is common among European breeding bird species and across life stages. Their dispersal estimates for 234 bird species can guide selecting appropriate dispersal kernels in range expansion studies

Soil carbon storage is related to tree functional composition in naturally regenerating tropical forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 36, Issue 12, Page 3175-3187, December 2022., 2022
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Regenerating tropical forests are increasingly important for their role in the global carbon cycle. Carbon stocks in above‐ground biomass can recover to old‐growth forest levels within 60–100 years.

Association between dietary exposure to bisphenols and body mass index in Spanish schoolchildren

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 20, Issue S1, May 2022., 2022

The fate and transit time of carbon in a tropical forest

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 109, Issue 8, Page 2845-2855, August 2021., 2021
The transit time distribution quantifies the time it takes for photosynthates to appear in the respiration flux. For a tropical forest in Colombia, it predicts that 50% of fixed carbon is respired in <0.5 years, and 95% in <69 years. Editor's Choice Abstract Tropical forests fix large quantities of carbon from the atmosphere every year; however, the ...

Age cohort effects on unemployment in the USA: Evidence from the regional level

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 100, Issue 4, Page 1025-1053, August 2021., 2021
Abstract Since the early 1970s, it was argued that shifts from relatively smaller to larger youth cohorts in the labor force raise the unemployment rate. In contrast, using US state‐level data, two studies come to a contrary conclusion. I provide a theoretical framework for local labor markets that considers age cohort differences in labor market ...

Epidemiology of paediatric injuries in Rwanda using a prospective trauma registry

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 78-85, February 2020., 2020
This study evaluated the demographics and outcomes of paediatric injury in Rwanda through a prospective trauma registry to inform capacity‐building for prevention and treatment. Patients treated in the capital city had a higher incidence of head injury and a higher overall injury‐related mortality than those in a rural town.

A Cross‐Cultural Comparison of ICD‐11 Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptom Networks in Austria, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania

open access: yesJournal of Traumatic Stress, Volume 33, Issue 1, Page 41-51, February 2020., 2020
Abstract The 11th revision of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases (ICD‐11) includes a new disorder, complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). The network approach to psychopathology enables investigation of the structure of disorders at the symptom level, which allows for analysis of direct symptom interactions.
