On estimating the local entropy of an image in a sliding window

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика
The paper considers a number of issues related to the calculation of the local entropy in a sliding window for image processing tasks. A new algorithm for entropy estimation is proposed, which has several times lower computational complexity than the ...

Parent Quality of Life at Two Years Following Their Child's Completion of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Treatment

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Parents of children treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) often experience significant caregiver burden and disruption to their well‐being. While parent quality of life (QoL) during treatment is well characterized, little is known about outcomes during early survivorship.

AgileSAR: Achieving Wide-Swath Spaceborne SAR Based on Time-Space Sampling

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
High resolution and wide swath, which are related to imaging quality and observation efficiency, are the key specifications for spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Speed Control of Permanent Magnet DC Motor with Friction and Measurement Noise Using Novel Nonlinear Extended State Observer-Based Anti-Disturbance Control

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In this paper, a novel finite-time nonlinear extended state observer (NLESO) is proposed and employed in active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) to stabilize a nonlinear system against system’s uncertainties and discontinuous disturbances using

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Integrated Design of Cooperative Detection and Guidance Considering Equal Numbers of Aircraft on Both Sides

open access: yesAerospace
In the scenario where the number of interceptors is equal to the number of target aircraft, and recognizing that the geometric configuration of interceptors during their maneuver towards targets affects detection effectiveness and guidance accuracy, we ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Error Mitigation via Verified Phase Estimation

open access: yesPRX Quantum, 2021
The accumulation of noise in quantum computers is the dominant issue stymieing the push of quantum algorithms beyond their classical counterparts. We do not expect to be able to afford the overhead required for quantum error correction in the next decade,
