Estimation of Cancer Risk

Drug Information Journal, 1989
In rare instances human dose-response data exist relating cancer risk to dose. Generally, cancer risk estimates must be based on the results of animal bioassays. Animals are generally dosed at levels exceeding human exposure levels to elicit potential toxic effects in relatively small numbers of animals.

Semiparametric estimation of Value at Risk

The Econometrics Journal, 2003
Summary: Value at Risk (VaR) is a fundamental tool for managing market risks. It measures the worst loss to be expected of a portfolio over a given time horizon under normal market conditions at a given confidence level. Calculation of VaR frequently involves estimating the volatility of return processes and quantiles of standardized returns.

Comparison of adjusted attributable risk estimators

Statistics in Medicine, 1992
AbstractThe estimation of attributable risk in the presence of confounding and effect modification is studied in this paper. Different adjustment methods for the attributable risk are reviewed. The results of a simulation study comparing these methods under the unrestricted multinomial sampling model are reported.

Multiscale SUR Estimation of Systematic Risk

Studies in Nonlinear Dynamics & Econometrics
Abstract We propose a multiscale version of the seemingly unrelated regressions model, based on wavelet transform-based time series observations. Each regression equation refers to a different time scale, which enables the use of across-scale error covariances in the feasible GLS estimation procedure for efficiency gains.

Improved estimates of floating absolute risk

Statistics in Medicine, 2003
AbstractFloating absolute risks are an alternative way of presenting relative risk estimates for polychotomous risk factors. Instead of choosing one level of the risk factor as a reference category, each level is assigned a ‘floated’ variance which describes the uncertainty in risk without reference to another level.

Local estimates of population attributable risk

Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, 2010
To investigate properties of population attributable risk (PAR) estimates, when its components come from different sources. Examples include situations where one requires local estimates of PAR for a study subset (e.g., in states or counties within a national study) or if one wishes to apply the findings of an epidemiologic study to another population ...

On summary estimators of relative risk

Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1981
Abstract Two summary relative risk estimators, which are analogues of the Mantel-Haenszel summary odds ratio, are derived for use in prospective studies with stratified data. One of the proposed summary relative risks is shown to be closely related to the maximum likelihood estimator of a common risk ratio, assuming a Poisson distribution for the ...
