Subacute Testicular Toxicity to Cadmium Exposure Intraperitoneally and Orally

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
The toxic effects of cadmium (Cd) on reproductive parameters are widely described in the literature. Experimental models often make use of the intraperitoneal route (i.p.), although human intoxication occurs preferentially by the oral route and can be continuous.

Evolutionism and genetics of posttraumatic stress disorder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The authors discuss, from the evolutionary concept, how flight and fight responses and tonic immobility can lead to a new understanding of posttraumatic stress disorder.

Contexts of Anointing Behavior in a Group of Blond Capuchin Monkeys (Sapajus flavius) Inhabiting an Atlantic Forest Fragment

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Primatology, Volume 88, Issue 1, January 2026.
Wild blond capuchin anoints with millipede species that secrete a chemical capable of repelling ectoparasites, suggesting a self‐medicative function. Social and solitary anointing bouts occurred at similar frequencies, but with greater engagement by adult males, indicating that anointing is a multifunctional behavior.

Relationship between Oxidative Stress and Physical Activity in Women with Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions in a Cervical Cancer Control Program in the Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is recognized as the most common sexually transmitted disease in the world, and there is a consensus on its role in the etiology of preneoplastic epithelial changes in the cervix. Through the process of lipid peroxidation, oxidative stress is found in the course of premalignant and malignant changes.

Soil drying and rewatering applied at three grain developmental stages affect differentially growth and grain protein deposition in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Water deficits cause large yield losses in wheat. Although anthesis is generally considered the most vulnerable period, water deficit during grain filling can also cause yield losses.

Seasonal and intracanopy shifts in the fates of absorbed photons in central Amazonian forests: implications for leaf fluorescence and photosynthesis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 1, Page 76-91, October 2025.
Summary Recent studies have shown a linear relationship between solar‐induced Chl fluorescence (SIF) and gross primary productivity (GPP) at large scales. However, this relationship diverges at finer leaf scales, particularly in tropical forests with complex canopy structures.

Reactive oxygen species act as signaling molecules to control root hair initiation and tip growth

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 247, Issue 5, Page 2042-2048, September 2025.
Summary Root hairs (RHs) increase the surface area of roots, facilitating nutrient and water uptake and plant anchorage. RHs form from root epidermal cells and elongate by polar tip growth. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have recently been implicated as important signals that drive RH formation and elongation using both genetic and imaging approaches ...
