The Estrous Cycle of Coyotes

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1976
The estrous cycle in coyotes (Canis latrans) is characterized by a long proestrus (2-3 months). Vaginal smear patterns associated with proestrus, estrus, and metestrus are described. Data from 41 adults indicated estrus begins about 13 March and persists for 10 days.

The estrous cycle in the dog: A review

Theriogenology, 1977
Abstract Clinical, morphologic and hormonal changes throughout the estrous cycle in the dog are discussed in relation to the well established stages in this species — proestrus, estrus, metestrus and anestrus. Although most efforts in the past have been devoted to the period of reproduction, events throughout the remaining months of the cycle are ...

An Inhibitory Effect of Melatonin on the Estrous Phase of the Estrous Cycle of the Rodent

Endocrinology, 1964
Microgram doses of melatonin decrease the incidence of vaginal smears that demonstrate estrous phases in Sprague- Dawley rats and C3H/HeN mice. This property is not shared by the precursors of melatonin, serotonin and N-acetylserotonin, or its major metabolite, 6-hydroxymelatonin.

Lipoproteins during the estrous cycle in swine

Metabolism, 2004
The purpose of this study was to examine lipoprotein values at high versus low 17beta-estradiol (E2) concentrations in Yucatan miniature swine. Estrous cycles were measured by heat checking the female on a daily basis using a boar. All swine were fed a 1,050-g low-fat, standard chow diet (8% kcal from fat) once per day.

Estrous cycle irregularities in overfed rats

Physiology & Behavior, 1990
Hypothalamic and genetic obesities in rodents are usually associated with reproductive impairments, but the underlying etiology of the latter is not clear because of concomitant metabolic abnormalities in these animal models. In the present study metabolically intact rats were used and obesity was developed by offering the rats a cafeteria-type diet ...
