Estrous Cycle Manipulation in Dogs
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice, 2018Since 1939, scientists have studied estrous cycle manipulation in dogs resulting in more articles published in this field that any other area of canine reproduction. Estrous cycle manipulation in dogs must be safe and reliable. Dopamine agonists, gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists, and gonadotropins are hormones that have been used for estrus ...

An Inhibitory Effect of Melatonin on the Estrous Phase of the Estrous Cycle of the Rodent
Endocrinology, 1964Microgram doses of melatonin decrease the incidence of vaginal smears that demonstrate estrous phases in Sprague- Dawley rats and C3H/HeN mice. This property is not shared by the precursors of melatonin, serotonin and N-acetylserotonin, or its major metabolite, 6-hydroxymelatonin.

The golden hamster Mesocricetus auratus was described as a new species and originally named Cricetus auratus by Waterhouse (1839). Laboratory colonies of the golden hamster both in Europe and America originate from a single capture from the wild by Mr. I.

Lipoproteins during the estrous cycle in swine
Metabolism, 2004The purpose of this study was to examine lipoprotein values at high versus low 17beta-estradiol (E2) concentrations in Yucatan miniature swine. Estrous cycles were measured by heat checking the female on a daily basis using a boar. All swine were fed a 1,050-g low-fat, standard chow diet (8% kcal from fat) once per day.

Estrous cycle irregularities in overfed rats
Physiology & Behavior, 1990Hypothalamic and genetic obesities in rodents are usually associated with reproductive impairments, but the underlying etiology of the latter is not clear because of concomitant metabolic abnormalities in these animal models. In the present study metabolically intact rats were used and obesity was developed by offering the rats a cafeteria-type diet ...

Electroconvulsive shock and the estrous cycle in the rat
Behavioral Biology, 1978The effects of electroconvulsive shock on the estrous cycle in the rat were investigated. Sixty animals, chosen on the basis of stability of estrus, were assigned randomly to one of four treatment conditions with the restriction that each condition contain 15 subjects.

Urination patterns and estrous cycling in mice
Behavioral and Neural Biology, 1979Changes in urination behavior in female C3M/Me-Mg self chocolate house mice were investigated in relation to the estrous cycle. The number of urine spots deposited on filter paper, and visualized under ultraviolet light, was found to be significantly higher during the proestrous and estrous stages of the cycle but showed a dramatic decline following ...

Radiosensitivity with Respect to the Estrous Cycle in the Mouse
Radiation Research, 1955lethality, carcinogenesis and cataractogenesis, shortening of life, sterility and a variety of other sequelae. The present study is made from another point of view, namely the effect of a physiological condition of the animal, i.e., estrus, on its response to whole-body X-irradiation. Ellinger (1) may have been one of the first to recognize the male as

Glucoprivic regulation of estrous cycles in the rat
Hormones and Behavior, 2003Previous research has shown that glucoprivation induced by chronic 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) treatment extends estrous cycle length and disrupts reproductive behaviors in female hamsters, similar to food deprivation. Such treatment also suppresses food intake, which is reversed in male rats by reducing brain histamine levels prior to 2DG treatment.

Progesterone: Regulation of Estrous Cycle, Ovulation and Estrous Behavior in the Golden Hamster
Endocrinology, 1970Three-month-old, intact, virgin, female golden hamsters were treated with progesterone given as a single subcutaneous injection using either 0.05 ml propylene glycol (PG) or sesame oil (SO) as an injection vehicle. The animals were then observed for estrous behavior and time of ovulation. One hundred, 50 and 25 but not 12.5 μg progesterone given on the
