Metastin/Kisspeptin and control of estrous cycle in rats
Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders, 2007Estrous cyclicity is controlled by a cascade of neuroendocrine events, involving the activation of the hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal axis. Two modes of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) are well established to regulate the estrous cycle: one is a tonic or pulse mode of secretion which is responsible for the stimulation of follicular development and

GnRH Secretion throughout the Ovine Estrous Cycle
Neuroendocrinology, 1987In order to define the patterns of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion during the estrous cycle of the sheep we sampled hypophysial portal blood from conscious animals on day 1 of the cycle (n = 1), during the luteal phase (n = 8), during the follicular phase (n = 6) and during the preovulatory luteinizing hormone (LH) surge (n = 6). At the

Regulation of the estrous cycle by neutrophil infiltration into the vagina
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2009During metestrus of the estrous cycle, a number of neutrophils infiltrate into the vaginal vault, presumably due to a neutrophil-specific chemokine, MIP-2, in mice. The physiological role of the infiltrating neutrophils, however, remains largely obscure.

Dissociation of estrous cycle and activity rhythm in rats
Experientia, 1983When rats were kept in continuous light there was a time-lag between the onset of activity arrhythmia and that of persistent estrus. When animals showing both arrhythmias in continuous light were kept under a LD 21:3 photoperiod, the activity rhythm returned to normal but the estrous cycle did not.
