Recombination suppression in plant adaptation and speciation

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 4, Page 2061-2077, May 2026.
Summary Recombination suppression is increasingly recognized as an important facilitator of genomic divergence and speciation, especially under ongoing gene flow. In plants, however, the broader evolutionary consequences and the mechanisms by which recombination suppression arises and spreads are still incompletely understood, reflecting the inherent ...

Scaling law links plant growth variation to grain yield in wheat stands

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 4, Page 2163-2175, May 2026.
Summary Growth rate, a fundamental trait associated with plant resource use, scales with plant mass, following consistent allometric power laws shaped by biophysical constraints and natural selection captured in metabolic scaling theory (MST). Although well‐established in wild plants, MST has been overlooked in crop improvement.

ARCILLA BENTONÍTICA MODIFICADA CON QUITOSANO PARA MATERIALES COMPUESTOS BIODEGRADABLES

open access: yesDyna, 2011
Se estudió la modificación de una arcilla colombiana tipo montmorillonita con un biopolímero policatiónico -quitosano-, y se evaluó el efecto del peso molecular del modificante en la efectividad del tratamiento de modificación.

Evolution of crop phenotypic spaces through domestication

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 3, Page 1948-1963, May 2026.
Summary We used domestication as an in vivo replicated experiment to investigate how divergent selection has shaped the evolution of multivariate phenotypic spaces. We measured 11–57 qualitative and quantitative traits in 13 species, either unique or shared between species, and established a framework for cross‐species comparisons. Our results revealed

Metacaspases contribute to the cellular response to heat stress in a marine diatom

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 4, Page 2357-2367, May 2026.
Summary Climate‐driven marine heatwaves (HW) are extreme, large‐scale events characterized by elevated ocean temperatures lasting from days to months. Despite their importance, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of algal response to marine HW. Recent studies suggest that metacaspases play an important role in thermotolerance.

GmSNAP14: a key contributor to soybean cyst nematode resistance in soybean

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 4, Page 2477-2494, May 2026.
Summary Soybean (Glycine max) plants counteract soybean cyst nematode (SCN, Heterodera glycines Ichinohe) infection through an impairment of soluble N‐ethylmaleimide‐sensitive factor (NSF) attachment protein (α‐SNAP) – NSF interactions and vesicular trafficking leading to cellular toxicity in response to nematode feeding.

Beyond high‐throughput: leveraging plant phenotyping to improve understanding and prediction of plant growth through process‐based models

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 3, Page 1468-1482, May 2026.
Summary The last decade has marked a period of rapid innovation in high‐throughput phenotyping (HTP) of plants. This includes the establishment of robotic phenotyping infrastructure, development of new sensors, and improvements in computation for downstream analysis.
