Estructura social del Ecuador

open access: yes, 1973
The prevailing development pattern in Ecuador is a result of the different ways in which the country was articulated to the socio-economic system of world domination. This pattern, fundamentally outward-oriented, affected the economy of the two main regions of the country in different ways; it first energized the Sierra, which in the colonial period ...

A novel mechanism of auxin habituation: upregulation of auxin receptor TRANSPORT INHIBITOR RESPONSE 1 allows cell proliferation independent of external auxin

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1268-1282, February 2026.
Summary Exogenously applied auxins are essential for establishing cell lines in tissue cultures and maintaining their proliferation. Cell lines may develop the ability to proliferate even in media lacking auxin, they may become auxin‐habituated. This study investigated the mechanisms underlying this process.

The frequency and importance of polyploidy in tropical rainforest tree radiations

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 2103-2114, February 2026.
Summary The presence of more than two copies of the genome in an organism, termed ‘polyploidy’, is a crucial force in plant evolution, generating genetic, phenotypic and ecological diversity. [Correction added on 22 January 2026, after first online publication: the preceding sentence has been corrected.] The Amazonian tree flora is the most species ...

Nitrogen fertilization reduces the standing biomass, abundance, and size of Cenococcum sclerotia: a ubiquitous but rarely quantified ectomycorrhizal soil carbon pool

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 1709-1715, February 2026.
Summary Unlike most ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi, Cenococcum geophilum is a prolific producer of sclerotia, which represent a large and persistent, yet rarely quantified pool of EM fungal biomass and carbon in soils. How biomass of these asexual propagules is impacted by global change factors, such as anthropogenic nitrogen (N) deposition, remains ...
