Estrus Synchronization in the Sheep and Goat
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 2021Estrus synchronization and manipulation are a tool that has been used by producers to provide uniform lamb and kid meat production and dairy sheep and goat milk production, to concentrate work and labor cost, and to plan for the lambing and kidding time.

The objectives of the present study were to assess the effect of permanent contact of teasers without copulation on the interval from controlled internal drug release (CIDR) removal to estrus onset, estrus duration, ovulation time, number of ovulations, and interval from CIDR removal to ovulation time on estrus-synchronized Boer goats.

Applied Animal Behaviour Science, 2001
During fall season, 18 multiparous Corriedale ewes were divided into two equal groups for the continuous (CON) and intermittent (INT) presence of a ram. Estrus was synchronized with fluorgestone acetate intravaginal sponges that were left 14 days, plus an injection of 200&mgr;g of a prostaglandin F-2alpha analog at sponge removal.

Estrus detection and estrus characteristics in housed and pastured Holstein–Friesian cows
Theriogenology, 2010This study compared three methods of estrus detection and characteristics of standing estrus between dairy cows kept in cubicle housing and fed a total mixed ration diet (HOUSED treatment) and those kept at pasture with concentrate ration supplementation (PASTURE treatment).

Control of Estrus in Gilts with a Progestogen
Journal of Animal Science, 1979Two trials were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a synthetic progestogen, allyl trenbolone, for control of estrus and ovulation in gilts. Estrus was effectively synchronized with 33 of 38 gilts exhibiting estrus 2 to 7 days after last progestogen feeding.

Nonpuberal Estrus in Beef Heifers2,3
Journal of Animal Science, 1986The frequency of occurrence of behavioral estrus without subsequent development of functional luteal tissue (termed nonpuberal estrus, NPE), was determined in 43 Simmental X Hereford-Brahman heifers. Blood samples were collected weekly from the start of the study to first behavioral estrus and then daily from d 1 (d 0 = estrus) through d 14 following ...

Since 1952, scientists have studied estrus suppression in dogs. Estrus suppression in dogs must be safe and reliable. Medications used for estrus suppression in bitches include gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists, GnRH antagonists, progestogens, and androgens.

Chemical inhibition of estrus in the beagle
Theriogenology, 1976Abstract Twenty anestrus bitches were dosed orally for 90 days with vehicle or 0.9 mg/kg b.w. of 6,6-spiroethylene-19-nor-spiroxenone. All dogs were due in estrus during the test period based on previous average estrous cycle lengths. Estrus was prevented in 100% of the drug-treated bitches.

Time of onset of estrus in gilts
Theriogenology, 1986An experiment was conducted to determine when, during a 24-h period, gilts show the onset of behavioral estrus. Beginning on Day 16 of their first estrous cycle, 42 crossbred gilts were observed at 0600, 1200, 1800, and 2400 h for the onset of their second estrus. Fifty-five percent of the gilts had shown onset of estrus by 0600 h.
