ABSTRACT Quantifying discard survival of species is crucial for effective fishery management. Electronic tags and visual health assessments were used to estimate postrelease survival of commercially caught thornback ray (Raja clavata), undulate ray (Raja undulata) and small‐eyed ray (Raja microocellata) from Northeast Atlantic inshore fisheries ...

Removal of Sea Lettuce, Ulva spp., in Estuaries to Improve the Environments for Invertebrates, Fish, Wading Birds, and Eelgrass, Zostera marina [PDF]
Mats (biomasses) of macroalgae, i.e. Ulva spp., Enteromorpha spp., Graciolaria spp., and Cladophora spp., have increased markedly over the past 50 years, and they cover much larger areas than they once did in many estuaries of the world.

ABSTRACT Estuaries provide essential habitats for many fish species, but their confined and accessible nature may increase fish vulnerability to capture, and few empirical studies have quantified the value of restricting net fisheries in such areas.

Locating nests of endangered bumble bees: Lessons from field trials in northern Germany
Tracking bumble bees to find their nests using coloured strips of paper stuck to their thorax proved to be the most suitable method, while radio transponders were too heavy. Tracking times of up to 2 h and distances of up to 800 m were achieved with strips of pink craft tissue paper.

Abstract Anadromous salmonids migrate seaward to exploit feeding and growth opportunities in marine habitats, yet how smolt biological characteristics influence their marine migratory behavior remains poorly understood. This study used 9 years of trout (Salmo trutta) population monitoring data from 15,595 tagged age‐0+ parr, 1033 smolts detected ...
