ESTUARINE CURRENT METER CONTRACT
1953Abstract : The Y-type position Convectron which was used as a cantilever load detector was replaced by resistance wire strain gages. An 8.5-in.-diam disk and a 2-ft cantilever with 3/8- by 1/16-in. cross section were used in sensing the velocity. The strain produced at the fixed end of the cantilever by a current of 0.1 fps (about 30 x 10 to the minus ...

Bedforms controlled by residual current vortices in a subtropical estuarine tidal channel
Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 2020Abstract The objective of the present work was to analyze the bottom morphology, the genesis of the bedforms, and the patterns of current and sediment transport of the internal portion of the south mouth in Paranagua Bay, Parana - Brazil. This region was used as a laboratory field to study the geomorphology of a dune field on a tide channel, with ...

Current Dynamics of Estuarine Circulation in the Lateral Boundary Layer
Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 1998Abstract High spatial resolution measurements of current velocity performed by the shipboard mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) in the lateral boundary layer of the southern Gulf of Finland during two 5-day periods are described and analysed with a focus on the dominant dynamics.

The Shot-Sensor Method of Measuring Currents in Shallow Estuarine Waters
Estuaries, 1990A current measuring device, the Shot-Sensor, was developed as a low cost alternative to measuring water flow speeds and directions using conventional, more expensive instrumentation. The device releases stainless steel shot of known size and settling speed into a flowing water mass.

Assessment of Tidal Current Resources: Case Studies of Estuarine and Coastal Sites
Energy & Environment, 2007The potential for tidal stream power in North Western European waters is large and a number of axial flow, vertical rotor and oscillating hydroplane schemes are approaching full scale design and construction. The accurate determination of the available or potential fluid power is being addressed by, in particular, the regulatory ...

Tidal Currents and Estuarine-Type Circulation in Johnstone Strait, British Columbia
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1976Four months of current meter observations across the western basin of Johnstone Strait have been examined, with particular attention given to the mean flow and to variations at tidal frequencies. We show that the time-averaged motions are typical of a moderately stratified estuary driven by tidal mixing and nonlinear advection.
