Mortality in Salmon (Salmo salar) Fry Related to Lipoid Liver Disease Induced by Unbalanced Fatty Acid Composition of the Diet

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In 2023, all but one Swedish restocking farm rearing Baltic salmon and sea trout fry experienced massive mortality caused by lipoid liver disease (LLD). The struck farms used the same feed, and this was suspected to be the cause of the outbreak.

Assessment of Salinity Tolerance in Lepeophtheirus salmonis Following Five Generations of Freshwater Treatment Selection

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Non‐medicinal approaches for controlling sea lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) infestations, such as freshwater (FW) treatments, have been increasingly implemented to support more sustainable parasite control in aquaculture. This study evaluated the efficacy of FW treatment against sea lice under controlled experimental conditions and assessed ...

Finding the sweet spot: An exploration of environmental factors to optimize Ulva carbohydrate content and composition

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract Green macroalgae from the Ulva genus are rich in polysaccharides of interest, including ulvan, starch, and cellulose. However, their content and structure are impacted by environmental factors, which poses challenges for industrial applications, especially in the context of climate change.

Identifying thermally tolerant bull kelp (Nereocystis luetkeana) source populations for restoration under climate change

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract Kelp forests are declining in many parts of the world due to climate change and other stressors. Restoration is one solution to return kelp forests to places where they have been lost, yet continually warming oceans may necessitate the identification of thermally tolerant strains to facilitate the long‐term success of kelp restoration.
