When conservation meets contagion: Mapping yellow fever risk to guide vaccination in an endangered primate

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 6, June 2026.
Spatial projections revealed high‐risk areas for YF transmission, highlighting priority zones for targeted vaccination efforts in GLTs. By integrating disease ecology into conservation planning, this study offers a scalable framework for spatially informed interventions aimed at mitigating disease‐driven declines in threatened species.

Frost Decreases Fruit Production in a Neotropical Savanna: Implications for Frugivorous Bird Abundances

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 3, May 2026.
Severe frost events seem to be happening on average every 5 years, rather than 7 years, as previously reported in the southern limit of the Cerrado, a Neotropical savanna. We conducted this study in the Cerrado, where severe frost events allowed us to compare fruit production and frugivorous bird abundance before and after the disturbance.

Growth–survival trade‐off in temperate trees is weak and restricted to late‐successional stages

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 11, Page 3466-3477, November 2025.
Our findings highlight a role of disturbances in filtering life‐history strategies and their potential impact on forest dynamics and global carbon cycling, but also a need to better understand the mediating processes of tree demographic trade‐offs.

Experimental Drought Suppresses Amphibian Pathogen Yet Intensifies Transmission and Disrupts Protective Skin Microbiome

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 6, June 2025.
This study used ecologically realistic enclosures with pumpkin toadlets to simulate short‐term drought conditions in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. Drought reduced the overall levels of a harmful amphibian fungus, but it also disrupted their protective skin‐associated bacteria and caused the toadlets to cluster in wet areas of the enclosures, which ...

Towards a global understanding of tree mortality

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 245, Issue 6, Page 2377-2392, March 2025.
Summary Rates of tree mortality are increasing globally, with implications for forests and climate. Yet, how and why these trends vary globally remain unknown. Developing a comprehensive assessment of global tree mortality will require systematically integrating data from ground‐based long‐term forest monitoring with large‐scale remote sensing.
