ESWL in Hemophiliac Patients

To assess ESWL treatment of urolithiasis in patients with hemophilia, the frequency of hemorrhagic complications, and to determine the treatment outline.From 1991 to 1997, eleven patients with hemophilia were treated by ESWL for urolithiasis. Substitution of deficient coagulation factors was started on the day of treatment.

Between February 1988 and December 1995, 1563 consecutive patients who had never previously been treated for ureteral stones were admitted to our hospital: 1535 (98%) underwent primary ESWL (with Lithostar plus) with fractioned doses and 28 (2%) needed primary endosurgery. At present 1327 (87%) patients can be evaluated.

ESWL treatment of urinary calculi

A total of 711 patients with symptomatic upper and lower urinary tract calculi underwent extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) at the Ohio Kidney Stone Center during the first six months. Von Dezember 1983 bis Ende Oktober 1985 wurden bei 1257 Patienten insgesamt 1511 ESWL-Behandlungen durchgefuhrt. Bei 19 Patienten (1,5%) wurde ein ESWL-bedingtes renales Hamatom festgestellt (intrarenal 9, subkapsular 10). 17/19 wurden einmal behandelt (Einzelstoswellenzahl 500–1800, 2 Patienten zweimal (2900 bzw. 4200 ES).
