Between February 1988 and December 1995, 1563 consecutive patients who had never previously been treated for ureteral stones were admitted to our hospital: 1535 (98%) underwent primary ESWL (with Lithostar plus) with fractioned doses and 28 (2%) needed primary endosurgery. At present 1327 (87%) patients can be evaluated.

ESWL and Triple Fire Lithotripter
Urologia Journal, 2009The ideal lithotripter which all companies hope to achieve in the near future, should be characterized by high efficacy, low impact on the patient's sensitivity to pain and least detrimental action on the surrounding tissues. Yet, even the most modern technology seems to be still very far from achieving these goals.

ESWL treatment of urinary calculi
Urology, 1989A total of 711 patients with symptomatic upper and lower urinary tract calculi underwent extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) at the Ohio Kidney Stone Center during the first six months. At follow-up 84 percent of the first 180 patients are stone-free. Retreatment was required for 2.8 percent of the patients with residual stone material. Thirty-

Some functions of the lithotriptor, like the targeting of the stone, the generation and synchronisation of shock waves, the recognition of errors in the system and printing of the description of the treatment, couldn't be done without a computerised control.

To the extent in which the "lithotripter" improves technically. SWEL experts provide different explanations to the failures of this technique. It will depend on the type of "lithotripter" as well as the calculus and its features (size, number, location, composition, obstruction, impact, absence of expansion chamber, presence of ureteral catheter, ...).

ESWL and arterial hypertension
Urologia Journal, 1992Two groups of patients with normal arterial pressure were studied; a retrospective group of 50, treated with Dornier HM3 at Salzburg Hospital and a prospective group of 23 treated with Lithostar Plus at Bolzano Hospital. It was concluded that therapy with ESWL did not bring about an increase in arterial pressure.
