Islands in the landscape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The string theory landscape consists of many metastable de Sitter vacua, populated by eternal inflation. Tunneling between these vacua gives rise to a dynamical system, which asymptotically settles down to an equilibrium state. We investigate the effects

Pre-big bang model has Planck problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The pre-big bang's kinetic driven inflationary mechanism is not an adequate form of inflation: the Planck length grows more rapidly than the scale factor.

Assembling a True “Olympic Gel” From over 16 000 Combinatorial DNA Rings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Olympic gels are an elusive class of soft matter, consisting of molecular networks held together purely by mechanically interlocked rings. Their topological structure promises unique properties and functions, but their synthesis has proven notoriously difficult.

Quintessence, Cosmological Horizons, and Self-Tuning

open access: yes, 2001
We point out that quintessence with an exponential potential V_0 exp(- beta phi / 3^{1/2} M_p) can account for the present observed acceleration of the universe, without necessarily leading to eternal acceleration. This occurs for 2.4 < beta < 2.8.

Stable Protein‐Based G‐Quadruplex‐Derived Supramolecular Bioinks as Tunable ECM‐Mimetic Constructs Assembled by Combining Non‐Covalent and Covalent Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Harnessing the synergistic interplay of supramolecular self‐assembly, under macromolecular crowding conditions, and enzymatic‐mediated covalent crosslinking toward a stable protein‐based G‐quadruplex‐derived supramolecular bioink. This bioinspired strategy enables the biofabrication of complex and tunable ECM‐mimetic constructs, providing a platform ...

Semiglobal Numerical Calculations of Asymptotically Minkowski Spacetimes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
This talk reports on recent progress toward the semiglobal study of asymptotically flat spacetimes within numerical relativity. The development of a 3D solver for asymptotically Minkowski-like hyperboloidal initial data has rendered possible the ...

Recent Developments in Energy Storage and Conversion Applications of Multifunctional Vanadium Carbides

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review systematically explains the synthesis, properties, and energy storage and conversion applications of vanadium carbides. We introduce the structural and the synthetic strategies and reviewed recent developments in the material synthesis processes. The emerging applications of vanadium carbides in energy storage and conversion are highlighted.

Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Pascal’s wager: tracking an intended reader in the structure of the argument [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Pascal’s wager is the name of an argument in favor of belief in God presented by Blaise Pascal in §233 of Thoughts. Ian Hacking (1972) pointed out that Pascal’s text involves three different versions of the argument.
