Re-Gendering the Libertine; or, The Taming of the Rake: Lucy Vestris as Don Giovanni on the Early Nineteenth-Century London Stage [PDF]
When Luigi Bassi entered the stage of the Prague National Theatre in 1787 to create the title role of Mozart and Da Ponte's Don Giovanni, he could have drawn inspiration from a rich tradition of theatrical, pantomimic and marionette representations of ...

Freak observers and the measure of the multiverse [PDF]
I suggest that the factor $p_j$ in the pocket-based measure of the multiverse, $P_j=p_j f_j$, should be interpreted as accounting for equilibrium de Sitter vacuum fluctuations, while the selection factor $f_j$ accounts for the number of observers that ...

Mobile guards on the vertices of a graph are used to defend the graph against an infinite sequence of attacks on vertices. A guard must move from a neighboring vertex to an attacked vertex (we assume attacks happen only at vertices containing no guard). More than one guard is allowed to move in response to an attack.

The otherness of a Barbarianess: Euripides’ Medea and Medea by Velimir Lukić [PDF]
Belonging to a social community, a nation, a culture or a religion, can be expressed by stressing differences and borders between us and others, between our collective self and their otherness.

Avoiding Boltzmann Brain domination in holographic dark energy models
In a spatially infinite and eternal universe approaching ultimately a de Sitter (or quasi-de Sitter) regime, structure can form by thermal fluctuations as such a space is thermal.

Geometric origin of coincidences and hierarchies in the landscape
We show that the geometry of cutoffs on eternal inflation strongly constrains predictions for the timescales of vacuum domination, curvature domination, and observation.

The CMB and the measure of the multiverse
In the context of eternal inflation, cosmological predictions depend on the choice of measure to regulate the diverging spacetime volume. The spectrum of inflationary perturbations is no exception, as we demonstrate by comparing the predictions of the ...

Efficient attack sequences in m-eternal domination
We study the m-eternal domination problem from the perspective of the attacker. For many graph classes, the minimum required number of guards to defend eternally is known. By definition, if the defender has less than the required number of guards, then there exists a sequence of attacks that ensures the attacker's victory.
