Hemicelluloses for fuel ethanol: A review
Bioresource Technology, 2010Hemicelluloses currently represent the largest polysaccharide fraction wasted in most cellulosic ethanol pilot and demonstration plants around the world. The reasons are based on the hemicelluloses heterogeneous polymeric nature and their low fermentability by the most common industrial microbial strains.

Postmortem Ethanol in the Setting of Ethanol-Containing Automotive Fuel
American Journal of Forensic Medicine & Pathology, 2013The pilot of a light aircraft that crashed after a loss of power was found to have ethanol in the vitreous and the blood, but almost none in the urine. The globes of the eyes were intact, and the body was refrigerated after recovery until the autopsy was performed the following morning.

Ignition Improvers for Ethanol Fuels
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1981<div class="htmlview paragraph">To facilitate the use of ethanol as a fuel for unmodified conventional diesel engines, ignition-improving additives are needed which in the case described (Brazil) preferably should be based on renewable raw materials, i.e. biomass.

Characteristics of Fuel Ethanol
2013Characteristics of fuel ethanol are discussed in this chapter. Ethanol is more reactive than hydrocarbon fuels, such as gasoline. Its molecular structure shows a polar fraction due to the hydroxyl radical and a non polar fraction in its carbon chain. Ethanol can be dissolved in both gasoline (non polar) and in water (polar).

DIESEL FUEL-AQUEOUS ETHANOL MICROEMULSIONS
Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology, 1982ABSTRACT Two-phase mixtures of diesel fuel and aqueous ethanol were microemulsified and data were collected on rheological properties, densities, water tolerance and critical solution temperatures. For the detergentless system of diesel fuel, aqueous ethanol and butanol it was found that the relative viscosity varied directly with the volume percent of

Review: Direct ethanol fuel cells
International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2013Direct ethanol fuel cells have attracted much attention recently in the search for alternative energy resources. As an emerging technology, direct ethanol fuel cells have many challenges that need to be addressed. Many improvements have been made to increase the performance of direct ethanol fuel cells, and there are great expectations for their ...

Brazil's fuel ethanol program sputters
Chemical & Engineering News Archive, 1990Archer Daniels Midland's (ADM) recent deal to ship 100 million gal of fuel ethanol from the U.S. to Brazil (C&EN, Jan. 8, page 14) underscores Brazil's continuing problems with its heralded but economically bizarre fuel ethanol program. Early last year, Brazil, troubled with runaway inflation and burdened with a horrendous debt, was trying several ...
