Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

ETHER AND CHLOROFORM. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1896
I am just now entering upon my fifth decade as a practitioner of medicine, and though it is a humiliating reflection, yet it is a fact, that what I learned of therapeutics during one of these epochs, I had to unlearn in the next, and that with all my delving among the resources of the materia medica, I can now count upon the fingers of both hands ...

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Multimodal Soft Surgical Robots Enabled by Eco‐Degradable, Sterilizable Polymers and Transient Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A compostable PGS soft surgical robot with interchangeable modules integrates transient Mo tactile and Si thermal sensors for dual feedback. The device preserves its function after clinical‐grade sterilization, demonstrates stable actuation and cardiac tissue grasping with real‐time in vivo pulsatile monitoring, and biodegrades post‐use with soil‐safe,

Understanding of anesthesia – Why consciousness is essential for life and not based on genes

open access: yesCommunicative & Integrative Biology, 2016
Anesthesia and consciousness represent 2 mysteries not only for biology but also for physics and philosophy. Although anesthesia was introduced to medicine more than 160 y ago, our understanding of how it works still remains a mystery. The most prevalent

Addition to Electron Deficient Olefins of α-Oxy Carbon- Centered Radicals, Generated from Cyclic Ethers and Acetals by the Reaction with Alkylperoxy- λ3-iodane

open access: yesMolecules, 2005
Thermal decomposition of 1-tert-butylperoxy-1,2-benziodoxol-3(1H)-one in cyclic ethers and acetals at 50 °C generates α-oxy carbon-centered radicals, which undergo an addition reaction with vinyl sulfones and unsaturated esters.
