Ethnogenesis and Language Genesis
1997Abstract Mchif is a peculiar language, and the Métis are a rather uncommon type of ethnic group. In this chapter I present a model for the genesis of mixed languages and the social circumstances under which they originate. We have seen that the Métis form a new and mixed ethnic group who speak a mixed language.

The author also suggests that plausible elements in folk legend are susceptible to paleogeographic analysis, and he illustrates the point
