Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Hafnium Nanostructures Fabricated by Physical Vapor Deposition Through a Colloidal Mask

We generate hafnium nanostructures by first depositing polystyrene particles of varying diameter followed by physical vapour deposition of hafnium thin films. The resultant structure shows a kill‐on‐contact effect against both Gram‐negative Escherichia coli and Gram‐positive Staphylococcus aureus.

Ethylene glycol (EG) can be found in many agents, such as antifreeze. Ingestion of EG may cause serious poisoning. Adults are typically exposed when EG is ingested as a cheap substitute for ethanol or in suicide-attempts. Children may be exposed by accidental ingestion caused by decantation of EG to unlabeled bottles.

Ethylene-Promoted versus Ethylene-Free Enyne Metathesis

The role of ethylene in promoting metathesis of acetylenic enynes is probed within the context of ring-closing enyne metathesis, using first- and second-generation Grubbs catalysts. Under inert atmosphere, rapid catalyst deactivation is observed by calibrated GC-FID analysis for substrates with minimal propargylic bulk.
