Investigation of extraneous peak reveals ethylene oxide in food supplements [PDF]
The global food supplement market is growing rapidly and so as the concerns on their quality, safety, and product efficacy. Product monitoring is challenging due to lenient regulation across the globe when compared to pharmaceutical counterparts. As part

Monolith formation and ring-stain suppression in low-pressure evaporation of poly(ethylene oxide) droplets [PDF]
When droplets of dilute suspensions are left to evaporate the final dry residue is typically the familiar coffee-ring stain, with nearly all material deposited at the initial triple line (Deegan et al, Nature, vol. 389, 1997, pp. 827-829).

Nitric oxide sensing in plants is mediated by proteolytic control of group VII ERF transcription factors [PDF]
Nitric oxide (NO) is an important signaling compound in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. In plants, NO regulates critical developmental transitions and stress responses.

Kinetics of ethylene oxide desorption from sterilised materials [PDF]
Ethylene oxide gas is commonly used to sterilize medical devices, and concerns about using this agent on biological systems are well-established. Medical devices sterilized by ethylene oxide must be properly aerated to remove residual gas and by-products.

Differential substrate behaviours of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide towards human glutathione transferase theta hGSTT1-1 [PDF]
The transformation of ethylene oxide (EO), propylene oxide (PO) and 1- butylene oxide (1-BuO) by human glutathione transferase theta (hGSTT1-1) was studied comparatively using 'conjugator' (GSTT1 + individuals) erythrocyte lysates.

Anaphylactic reaction to ethylene oxide in a hemodialysis patient
We present the case of a patient who developed a severe systemic allergic reaction during initiation of hemodialysis. The reaction completely resolved by switching the dialysis filter sterilized by ethylene oxide to a steam sterilized filter.
