Leaders Are Somethin' Else: Behavioural Variation Associated With Roles During Tandem Running Recruitment

open access: yesEthology, EarlyView.
In this study, we found moderate to strong repeatabilities in behavioural variables measuring the personality traits: activity, aggressiveness and exploration. Similarly, the probability of acting as a leader during tandem running in an emigration event was moderately (R = 0.469) repeatable.

Waist‐to‐Hip Ratio, but Not Body Mass Index, Is Associated with Testosterone and Estradiol Concentrations in Young Women

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
We studied if testosterone and estradiol concentrations are associated with specific female waist‐to‐hip ratios (WHRs) and body mass indices (BMIs). Participants were 187 young women from which waist, hips, weight, and height were measured. In addition, participants informed on which day of their menstrual cycle they were and provided a 6 mL saliva ...

The Free‐Range Rock Cavy (Kerodon rupestris) Communicates the Urgency of a Threat Using Different Alarm Calls

open access: yesEthology, Volume 131, Issue 10, Page 175-186, October 2025.
Rock cavy alarm calls are finely modulated by threat proximity. ABSTRACT This study examines whether rock cavies (Kerodon rupestris), which are social rodents, modulate their alarm calls in response to various threat contexts. Conducted across four sample areas within two study sites in the Brazilian Caatinga region, alarm calls were collected using ...

Thermal Tolerance in Anuran Embryos with Different Reproductive Modes: Relationship to Altitude

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Anurans are ectothermic animals very sensitive to temperature, mainly during the embryonic stage. In addition, environmental temperature decreases with altitude, and the amphibian fauna changes. Therefore, we studied the relationship between the embryonic thermal tolerances of twelve species of anurans and the temperatures of their microhabitat along ...
