The malate–aspartate shuttle supports thermogenic lipid mobilization in brown adipocytes
The FEBS Journal, EarlyView.Brown fat cells burn lipids within their mitochondria to generate heat. This process involves two energy “shuttles,” one of which is naturally blocked during heat production. We found that the second shuttle (MASh) is not required to generate heat. However, when MASh is disabled, the fatty acids meant for fuel are instead converted back into stored fat.

KU80 suppresses endonuclease G activity to preserve genomic integrity
The FEBS Journal, EarlyView.Under normal conditions, EndoG remains restricted to mitochondria and the genome remains intact. When KU80 is absent, EndoG translocates into the nucleus, where it promotes DNA fragmentation and genomic instability. Thus, this work highlights the importance of KU80 in tightly controlling EndoG localization to preserve genome stability.
