Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Political and Legal Aspects of Launching the Post-COVID-19 Recovery Package for Poland in Light of EU Institutional Documents (2019–2024)

open access: yesPolish Political Science Yearbook
The idea of establishing a separate fund within the EU arose during the COVID-19 crisis. It was assumed that after the temporary closure of key economic sectors, an additional flow of money would be needed to stimulate economic activity again.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Immunity of EU Institutions in Judicial Proceedings in the EU Member States

open access: yesZbornik Znanstvenih Razprav, 2019
By virtue of Protocol on the Privileges and Immunities of the European Union and its institutions, the latter are granted immunity of jurisdiction and immunity of enforcement. However, such an immunity is an exception in any procedural law.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Crossing borders in higher education? A comparative case study at the intersections of EU regional and higher education policies [PDF]

open access: yesEastern Journal of European Studies, 2020
BEven though the European Union’s policy for regional development addresses higher education institutions, there is little research on the relationship between EU regional and higher education (HE) policies.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Rule in the New European Union

open access: yesEuropean Law Open
This article suggests that the economically activist tendencies of the European Union are not just a temporary response to exogenous crises, but part of a long-term transformation of the EU into a governance structure that is increasingly equipped for ...

Growth without development: institutional barriers to convergence in EU candidate states [PDF]

open access: yesEastern Journal of European Studies
This research analyzes the effect of institutions on economic growth in eight EU candidate transition countries, combining quantitative (β-convergence models) and qualitative (integration maturity framework) methodologies.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
