eucalyptus oil poisoning in children
Journal of Pediatric Neurosciences, 2011We are reporting 2 cases of accidental eucalyptus oil ingestion presenting with status epilepticus. Both the cases presented to our hospital casualty actively convulsing within half hour of eucalyptus oil consumption. As there is no specific antidote for eucalyptus oil, the cases were managed with appropriate supportive treatment.

Phytochemistry, 1969Abstract The steam-volatile bark oil of Eucalyptus crenulata has been shown to contain β-phenylethyl phenylacetate, methyl 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoate and p -cymene. Severla minor constituents have been tentatively identified by chromatographic techniques.

PMR Determination of Cineole in Eucalyptus Oil
Spectroscopy Letters, 1979Abstract An accurate, more convenient and less time-consuming PMR procedure is described for the quantitative determination of cineole in bulk drug and in a sample of eucalyptus oil. Standard mixtures containing pure cineole showed a mean result of 100.6 ± 0.7%.

The findings show the current world requirement is 2000 to 3000 tonnes annually with a turnover of $A 5 to 7 million. China has the major share (45 per cent) of the world market.
