Household dog fecal composting: Current issues and future directions

open access: yesIntegrated Environmental Assessment and Management, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 1876-1891, November 2024.
Abstract Dog feces are a known source of nutrient, pathogen, and plastic pollution that can harm human and ecosystem health. Home composting may be a more environmentally sustainable method of managing dog feces and reducing this pollution. While composting is an established method for recycling animal manures into low‐risk soil conditioners for food ...

Phytoremediation of Nitrogen as Green Chemistry for Wastewater Treatment System

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
It is noteworthy that ammoniacal nitrogen contamination in wastewater has reportedly posed a great threat to the environment. Although there are several conventional technologies being employed to remediate ammoniacal nitrogen contamination in wastewater, they are not sustainable and cost‐effective.

Heavy metals (Cr and Zn) induced alterations in cast production, burrowing behaviour, surface migration and macropore formation in three ecologically different earthworm species: A comparative study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Heavy metals can influence earthworm behavior and physiology which could drastically impact the soil functioning. To test this hypothesis, under laboratory conditions, the cast production and burrow systems( burrow length and patterns), macropores formed

Emission of Methane by Eudrilus eugeniae and Other Earthworms from Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2012
ABSTRACT Earthworms emit denitrification-derived nitrous oxide and fermentation-derived molecular hydrogen. The present study demonstrated that the earthworm Eudrilus eugeniae , obtained in Brazil, emitted methane. Other worms displayed a lesser or no capacity to emit methane.

Current distribution of the invasive earthworm Pontoscolex corethrurus (Müller, 1857) after a century of its first report from Kerala state, India [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Pontoscolex corethrurus (Müller, 1857) is an important peregrine earthworm species in the humid tropics and is found in land disturbed by human activities. Its presence in Kerala state was first reported by Michaelsen in 1910.
