Vermicomposting of different forms of water hyacinth by the earthworm Eudrilus eugeniae, Kinberg

Six-month long trials were conducted on different vermireactors fed with one of the following forms of water hyacinth: (a) fresh whole plants, (b) dried whole plants, (c) chopped pieces of fresh plants, (d) 'spent' weed taken from reactors after extracting volatile fatty acids (VFAs), (e) precomposted fresh weed and (f) precomposted spent weed.

Unique phenotypes in the sperm of the earthworm Eudrilus eugeniae for assessing radiation hazards

The earthworm, Eudrilus eugeniae is a segmented worm. It has two pairs of testes whose cells are highly proliferative. It was found that the earthworm, which is irradiated with X-ray, shows the following phenotypic changes in its sperm: fragmented acrosome in the head, break in the tail, and the appearance of zigzag sperm tail.

AbstractPresent study evaluates acute toxic effects of chlorpyrifos on earthworm ( Eudrilus eugeniae ) under laboratory conditions. Acute toxicity bioassays was performed following OECD ( 1984) guideline 207 using artificial soil. The LC50 values were determined after 7 and 14 days of exposure.

AbstractPresent study was undertaken to assess effect of Roundup on earthworm, Eudrilus eugeniae. The values for LC50 were determined over 7 and 14 day exposure periods. Earthworms were exposed to concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 1000 ppm in artificial soil.
