Evaluation of Aromatic Plants and Compounds Used to Fight Multidrug Resistant Infections

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Traditional medicine plays a vital role for primary health care in India, where it is widely practiced to treat various ailments. Among those obtained from the healers, 78 medicinal plants were scientifically evaluated for antibacterial activity. Methanol extract of plants (100 μg of residue) was tested against the multidrug resistant (MDR) Gram ...

An Ecological Comparison of Floristic Composition in Seasonal Semideciduous Forest in Southeast Brazil: Implications for Conservation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Forestry Research, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
We examined floristic patterns of ten seasonal semideciduous forest sites in southeastern Brazil and conducted a central sampling of one hectare for each site, where we took samples and identified all individual living trees with DBH (diameter at breast height, 1.30 m) ≥4.8 cm. Arboreal flora totaled 242 species, 163 genera, and 58 families.

Foraging of Scaptotrigona aff. depilis (Hymenoptera, Apidae) in an Urbanized Area: Seasonality in Resource Availability and Visited Plants

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
The floral sources used by bees can be identified by analyzing pollen grains obtained from their bodies, feces, brood cells, or storage pots in the nests. In addition to data on resource availability, this information enables the investigation on the selection of food resource by bees. We assessed the foraging patterns of Scaptotrigona aff.

Neutral Sterols of Cephalic Glands of Stingless Bees and Their Correlation with Sterols from Pollen

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Sterols are essential molecules in the membrane lipid composition and precursors of important sterol hormones that regulate many developmental processes. Insects are unable to synthesize sterols de novo and, thus, all phytophagous insects depend on an exogenous source of sterols for growth, development, and reproduction.

Henry Trimen: Under‐appreciated pioneer in the typification of Linnaean plant names?

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract In 1887, Henry Trimen published a paper summarising the contents of the Hermann Herbarium, in what is now the Natural History Museum, London (BM), in terms of the plant names published by Linnaeus. Trimen referred to the Hermann specimens as types of Linnaeus's names.
