Redescription of Euglena rustica (Euglenophyceae), a rare euglenophyte from the intertidal zone

Abstract Euglena rustica, a rare species of Euglena, was discovered growing in patches in the intertidal sand of Nannygoat Beach at the University of Georgia Marine Institute at Sapelo Island, Georgia. A full-emended description is given. The cells are ~ 50 μm long, and the posterior is never attenuate.

Abstract Endonuclear bacteria were observed within Euglena hemichromata cells isolated from a bloom in a small pond in South Korea. Ultrastructural features of the host cell and resident bacteria are presented and a route of infection pathway into host cells proposed.
