Redescription of Euglena rustica (Euglenophyceae), a rare euglenophyte from the intertidal zone
Phycologia, 2002Abstract Euglena rustica, a rare species of Euglena, was discovered growing in patches in the intertidal sand of Nannygoat Beach at the University of Georgia Marine Institute at Sapelo Island, Georgia. A full-emended description is given. The cells are ~ 50 μm long, and the posterior is never attenuate.

A REDESCRIPTION OF THE GENUS PLOEOTIA DUJ. (EUGLENOPHYCEAE)
TAXON, 1988SummaryA colorless euglenoid was isolated from a sample of seawater collected from a New Jersey salt marsh in March 1984. This organism has been continuously maintained in the laboratory for the past three years. Though evidently belonging to a different species, this euglenoid bore remarkable similarities to Serpenomonas costata, previously described ...

HISTOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF THE EXTRACELLULAR CARBOHYDRATE OF COLACIUM MUCRONATUM (EUGLENOPHYCEAE)1
Journal of Phycology, 1977ABSTRACTThe stalk of Colacium mucronatum Bourr. & Chad. is composed primarily of a cylindrical shaft with a lightly staining inner core and diffuse peripheral cortex. The shaft and cortex arise from a ring‐shaped region around the canal opening whereas the core appears continuous with the canal which may be associated with initial cell attachment ...

Abstract Endonuclear bacteria were observed within Euglena hemichromata cells isolated from a bloom in a small pond in South Korea. Ultrastructural features of the host cell and resident bacteria are presented and a route of infection pathway into host cells proposed.

PROPOSED NEW IDENTIFICATION CHARACTER FOR THE GENUSCOLACIUM(EUGLENOPHYCEAE)1
Journal of Phycology, 1980ABSTRACTCells of the genusColaciumEhrenberg can be distinguished with the light microscope from cells of the genusEuglenaEhrenberg by the presence of basophilic granules in the anterior tip of theColaciumcell which are clustered around the canal opening. The granules exhibit a biphasic pattern of osmiophilia in electron micrographs.

Chapter 5 Cell Attachment Mechanisms in the Flagellate, Colacium (Euglenophyceae)
1986Publisher Summary This chapter discusses that the general pattern of attachment by cells of Colacium is not unique. The same general steps have been outlined for the association-specific behavior patterns of parasites as well as in part, for zoospore attachment by Characium and the ship-fouling alga, Enteromorpha .
