Integrative approach resolves the taxonomy of Eulaema cingulata (Hymenoptera, Apidae), an important pollinator in the Neotropics [PDF]
Species delimitation is a rich scientific field that often uses different sources of data to identify independently evolving lineages that might be recognized as species.

Diversity and distribution of orchid bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae, Euglossini) in Belize [PDF]
Background Orchid bees are abundant and widespread in the Neotropics, where males are important pollinators of orchids they visit to collect fragrant chemicals later used to court females.

An elevational gradient in floral traits and pollinator assemblages in the Neotropical species Costus guanaiensis var. tarmicus in Peru [PDF]
We analyzed floral traits and pollinator assemblages in the Neotropical species Costus guanaiensis var. tarmicus along a steep elevational gradient in Peru. Results show floral traits and pollinator assemblage variation along the elevational gradient. We examined our results considering two hypotheses: (1) local adaptation to different bee assemblages ...

Males of the orchid bee Eulaema cingulata (Hymenoptera: Apidae) as important vectors of the cleptoparasitic beetle Meloetyphlus fuscatus (Coleoptera: Meloidae) [PDF]
Meloid beetles are known by their hypermetamorphic life cycle with active first instar larvae called triungulins found in most species. Most of the larvae in this family feed on provisions and immature stages of bees. The monotypic genus Meloetyphlus is associated with the nests of some orchid bee species, and some of its morphological characteristics ...

First Record of Brazil nut Pollinators Outside Amazon Biome
We present the first records of insect visitors and pollinators of Bertholletia excelsa (Lecythidaceae) in a 25 years plantation outside the Amazon biome, flowering and producing Brazil nuts. We installed a platform to observe and photograph the insects.

Orchid bees enhance seed set production of an understory herb in the Western Brazilian Amazon
Bee pollination is an important ecosystem service related to the maintenance of many flowering plants. We evaluated the relationship between orchid bee foraging time and the density of flowering plants and whether visitation varied according to the sex ...

Functional resin use in solitary bees
Overall, more than 30% of bee species depend on non‐floral resources such as resin, which is used in nesting for nest structures, chemical camouflage, defence, moisture regulation, and its anti‐microbial properties. Resin usage appears to be constrained by environmental and physiological factors and may play a major role in determining the ambient nest

Long‐term (1979–2019) dynamics of protected orchid bees in Panama
We gathered quantitative data on 33 species of an intact orchid bee community in lowland forest. Our two studies combined included half the months during 50 years' monitoring. Most species increased or were stable, but the declines included some of the most common and, therefore, unthreatened species.
