Linear Dynamic Analysis of a Spatially Curved Bernoulli-Euler Beam Subjected to a Moving Load

open access: yesAGG+, 2022
This paper considers the dynamic analysis of a spatially curved Bernoulli-Euler beam subjected to a moving load. The isogeometric approach is used for the spatial discretization of the weak form of the equation of motion.

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

A methodology for analysis of defective pipeline by introducing stress concentration factor into beam-pipe finite element formulation

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2016
This work proposes a methodology for defective pipe elastoplastic analysis using the Euler Bernoulli beam-pipe element formulation. The virtual work equation is modified to incorporate the stress concentration factor in beam-pipe element formulation. The

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.

Functional Disorder at the Neural Interface: How Disordered Nanostructures Promote Proper Growth and Differentiation in In Vitro Neural Cultures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work provides a practical guide for neuroengineers to design advanced neural interfaces, embracing and tailoring the concept of functional disorder. By bridging 2D and 3D in vitro models, this work highlights how non‐periodic, spatially heterogeneous, multiscale nanotopography can enable more physiologically relevant platforms for studying neural ...

Unique Recovery of Unknown Spatial Load in Damped Euler-Bernoulli Beam Equation From Final Time Measured Output

open access: yes, 2021
In this paper we discuss the unique determination of unknown spatial load F(x) in the damped Euler-Bernoulli beam equation rho(x)u(tt)+mu u(t)+(r(x)u(xx))(xx)=F(x)G(t) 0, the damping coefficient mu > 0 and the temporal load G(t) > 0.

Nonlinear Vibration Analysis of Euler-Bernoulli Beams by Using Continuous Galerkin-Petrov Time-Discretization Method

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
In this paper, we present a new numerical method for nonlinear vibrational analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beams. Our approach is based on the continuous Galerkin-Petrov time discretization method.
