The Shear Effect of Large-Diameter Piles under Different Lateral Loading Levels: The Transfer Matrix Method

open access: yesBuildings
In various analytical models, modeling the behavior of large-diameter monopiles and piles can be challenging due to these foundations with huge body sizes carrying mechanisms of lateral loads to the surrounding soils.

Free vibration analysis of angle-ply laminate composite beams by mixed finite element formulation using the Gâteaux differential

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2014
Free vibration analyses of angle-ply laminated composite beams were investigated by the Gâteaux differential method in the present paper. With the use of the Gâteaux differential method, the functionals were obtained and the natural frequencies of the ...

An Euler–Bernoulli second strain gradient beam theory for cantilever sensors [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Magazine Letters, 2013
Abstract This paper derives an Euler–Bernoulli beam theory for isotropic elastic materials based on a second strain gradient description. As such a description has been proved to allow for the definition of surface tension for solids, the equations satisfied by a beam featuring a through-thickness cohesion modulus gradient are established in order to ...

Scalable High‐Force Zipping Electrostatic Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An electrostatic actuator architecture is presented that combines high energy density with forces and strokes suited for wearable soft robotics. By folding patterned thin films into a scalable honeycomb of zipping units, performance becomes tunable through series–parallel design, achieving over 40 N and 28 J/kg.

Critical Velocity of High-Performance Yarn Transversely Impacted by Razor Blade

open access: yesFibers, 2018
A ballistic parameter that influences the ballistic performances of a high-performance yarn is the critical velocity. The critical velocity is defined as the projectile striking velocity that causes instantaneous rupture of the yarn upon impact.

Free Vibration Analysis of Rotating Beams Based on the Modified Couple Stress Theory and Coupled Displacement Field

open access: yesApplied Mechanics, 2021
In this paper, transverse vibration analysis of rotating micro-beam is investigated based on the modified couple stress theory. The simply-supported micro-beam is modeled utilizing Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories.

Identities concerning Bernoulli and Euler polynomials

open access: yes, 2006
We establish two general identities for Bernoulli and Euler polynomials, which are of a new type and have many consequences. The most striking result in this paper is as follows: If $n$ is a positive integer, $r+s+t=n$ and $x+y+z=1$, then we have $$rF(s ...

Seismic analysis and design of tunnels within fault ground: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The research methods of seismic response of tunnels within fault ground, including field investigations, analytical solutions, physical experiments, and numerical simulations, and seismic countermeasures are discussed. The present study examines the shortcomings and limitations of the current research and design, and puts forward proposals for future ...

Free vibrations of linear viscoelastic polymer cantilever beams

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mécanique, 2020
The free vibrations of cantilever slender beams of polymers, which are viscoelastic materials, are theoretically described using the simple Euler–Bernoulli assumption.
