Projecting Future Flood Losses to Company Assets in Europe: The Role of Precautionary Measures

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 13, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract Flooding has become an escalating threat over the past years, driven by climate, land use and socio‐economic changes. In Europe, floods now surpass other natural disasters in severity, causing substantial economic losses, particularly in the companies (commercial and industrial sectors). While river flood impacts on agriculture and residential

Precipitation extremes in a EURO-CORDEX 0.11° ensemble at hourly resolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Abstract. Regional climate model simulations have routinely been applied to assess changes in precipitation extremes at daily time steps. However, shorter sub-daily extremes have not received as much attention. This is likely because of the limited availability of high temporal resolution data, both for observations and for model outputs.

Added value of EURO-CORDEX downscaling over the complex orography region of the Pyrenees

open access: yesClimate Dynamics
This study presents an assessment of the added value of downscaling utilizing Regional Climate Models (RCMs) compared to Global Climate Models (GCMs) in the high mountain region of the Pyrenees, characterized by complex topography.

Compounding Impacts of Extreme Climate Events on European Birds Under Climate Change

open access: yesConservation Letters, Volume 18, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
ABSTRACT When multiple simultaneous or successive extreme climatic events occur, compound impacts can follow, where the effects of one event worsen the impacts of another. Surprisingly, the risks that these compound events pose to biodiversity have rarely been investigated.

Regional climate hindcast simulations within EURO-CORDEX: evaluation of a WRF multi-physics ensemble [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2015
In the current work we present six hindcast WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting model) simulations for the EURO-CORDEX (European Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment) domain with different configurations in microphysics, convection and ...

Modelling the future evolution of glaciers in the European Alps under the EURO-CORDEX RCM ensemble

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2018
. Glaciers in the European Alps play an important role in the hydrological cycle, act as a source for hydroelectricity and have a large touristic importance. The future evolution of these glaciers is driven by surface mass balance and ice flow processes,

Streamflow Projections in Valgrosina Valley: Climate Change Calls for Adaptation in the Alpine Region

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 39, Issue 10, October 2025.
A model ensemble composed of 21 RCMs was bias‐corrected using 2005–2020 as the reference period. Two approaches were tested, demonstrating that monthly quantile delta mapping (QDM‐mo) improves bias correction over the traditional yearly quantile delta mapping (QDM‐y) for both precipitation and temperature.

Quantifying the Potential of Photonic Cooling to Improve Urban Microclimate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The observed warming trend in regional climate is expected to continue in the future, aggravating urban heat load as extreme temperatures are amplified in cities due to the urban heat island (UHI) effect.
