Surface‐Driven Protocell Formation in Geologically Relevant Early Earth Environment
Illustration of a prebiotic early‐Earth environment showing cell‐like protocells (blue spheres) and other complex organic molecules (pink and green spheres) distributed across terrestrial surfaces and within subsurface niches. Volcanic landscapes and mineral‐rich substrates provide diverse geochemical settings for the assembly and evolution of ...

Selective Hydrodemethylation of Methylalkylbenzenes on Potassium Hydride
Selective catalytic hydrodealkylation of methylalkylbenzenes on carbon‐supported potassium hydride is reported. The reaction exhibits a reactivity trend of 1° ∼ 2° ∼ 3° < CH3, which is opposite to traditional dealkylation and hydrodealkylation. DFT calculations on the (001) facet of KH with ortho‐ethyltoluene suggest that selectivity is controlled by ...

Global Patterns and Gaps in Research on Salinity Tolerance of Inland Fishes
ABSTRACT Freshwater salinization is an emerging threat impacting approximately one‐third of the world's freshwater bodies. However, the salinity tolerance of many inland fishes remains understudied, despite being a crucial factor in determining species distributions and fitness.

Most Drosophila species, such as D. melanogaster, make one type of sperm, while the obscura species group produces multiple sperm morphs, with different total lengths and nuclear lengths. The pseudoobscura species subgroup produces three sperm morphs (one long, two short). This is a derived feature as other sub‐groups produce two sperm morphs.
