The Usage History of the Aqueduct of Nîmes Reconstructed From Carbonate Archives: Operation, Modifications and Late Antique Breakdown and Change

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 41, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Anthropogenic carbonate deposits in Roman aqueducts can provide detailed environmental and archaeological information. The Roman aqueduct of Nîmes (France), famed for the Pont du Gard bridge, was built around AD 50 to convey water over 50 km to the city of Nemausus for drinking and bathing.

“It's Human Nature to Search for Some Kind of Company”: Youth, Photovoice, and the Theory of Listening Literacy

open access: yesJournal of Adolescent &Adult Literacy, Volume 70, Issue 2, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT In this article the authors introduce the concept of “listening literacy,” a merged research and instructional framework designed to address growing civic disengagement and political polarization in the United States. Drawing on Indigenous pedagogies, Deweyan democratic philosophy, critical pedagogy, and culturally sustaining practices, the ...

How localized physical processes influence large‐scale phytoplankton blooms near the sea ice edge in the Greenland Sea

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, Volume 11, Issue 5, September 2026.
Abstract The Arctic Ocean has experienced intensifying phytoplankton spring blooms near the sea ice edge. Here, we investigate the drivers of such near‐ice blooms in the Greenland Sea by comparing satellite and in situ observations with the ECCO‐Darwin physical–biogeochemical state estimate.

Extreme Rainfall Estimation Methods: A Review

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 33, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
The figure illustrates the topics we cover and their inter‐relationships. Extreme value models assign probabilities to rainfall depths, often using regionalisation. They may also allow variation with season, duration, climate epoch or the spatial extent of rainfall. The resulting storm depths can be assigned spatial and/or temporal profiles.

The disruption of seed dispersal networks: disentangling the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 9, September 2026.
Seed dispersal by frugivores is a central process linking plant reproduction, animal foraging, population persistence, and ecosystem resilience. Currently, the spatial template sustaining these interactions is rapidly reconfigured by habitat loss and fragmentation promoted by human activity.

Floating Platform Geometry as a Frequency‐Selective Mechanism for Triboelectric Wave Energy Harvesting

open access: yesSmartSys, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Ocean wave energy has enormous potential for sustainable power generation but conventional technologies often face challenges in efficiency, durability, and adaptability to specific sites. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are able to convert irregular and low frequency water motion into electrical energy, but their performance depends on ...
