Distribution, growth, and structure of pine-beech forest stands in the Lviv Roztochchia region

open access: yesНаукові праці Лісівничої академії наук України
In the western part of Ukraine, pine-beech forest stands are widespread only in the physico-geographical regions of Roztochchia and Opillia. Their total area is 8,204.5 hectares, of which 6,246.5 hectares (76.13%) are occupied by stands of natural origin,

De novo transcriptome assembly and analysis of differential gene expression in response to drought in European beech.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Despite the ecological and economic importance of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) genomic resources of this species are still limited. This hampers an understanding of the molecular basis of adaptation to stress.

Weekend Overload: Day‐to‐Day Fluctuations of Outdoor Recreation Affect Wild Mammals' Space‐Use in a Popular Forest Reserve Near Florence, Italy

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
In an urban‐adjacent forested area, we investigated the spatial and temporal distribution of the wild mammal community in relation to day‐to‐day fluctuations of human presence occurring between working days and weekends. We deployed 52 camera‐traps systematically within an EU Natura 2000 area located within the metropolitan area of Florence, central ...

LGM glaciation in the northern Dinaric Mountains, Slovenia: new insights from terrestrial cosmogenic nuclide dating and Parallel Ice Sheet Model simulation

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The Dinaric Mountains are a mountain range stretching NW–SE from the Alps to the Albanides–Hellenides in central Europe. The highest parts were occupied by small ice fields and/or valley glaciers during the Quaternary cold periods, while even today some small glaciers still exist in topoclimatically favourable areas.

Effects of tree characteristics and climatic conditions on gall midge abundance on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.)

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science
As a consequence of climate change and damage to coniferous forests, European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) is the preferred plant species for forest restoration in Central Europe. European beech is generally regarded as pest-resistant.

TreeON: Reconstructing 3D Tree Point Clouds from Orthophotos and Heightmaps

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We present TreeON, a novel neural‐based framework for reconstructing detailed 3D tree point clouds from sparse top‐down geodata, using only a single orthophoto and its corresponding Digital Surface Model (DSM). Our method introduces a new training supervision strategy that combines both geometric supervision and a differentiable shadow and ...
