European Environmental Law in the Dutch Polder

open access: yesTilburg foreign law review, 2000
This article which is based on my (Dutch) Ph.D. thesis De implementatie van het EG-milieurecht door Nederlandse decentrale overheden (Deventer, 1998) focuses on the role the decentralized authorities have in implementation of EC environmental law in the Netherlands. Decentralized authorities must observe EC law.

Bioinspired Passive Flow Routing to Mitigate Thrombosis in Prosthetic Heart Valves and Cardiovascular Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bioinspired passive flow routing mitigates thrombosis in cardiovascular devices by redirecting a small fraction of forward flow into stagnation‐prone regions. Inspired by avian alula and aircraft slat mechanisms, strategically placed routing channels restore washout around mechanical heart valves, reducing low‐shear exposure by four orders of magnitude

Membrane‐Active Peptide Protects Against Inflammation by Targeting NLRP3 Activation at the Trans‐Golgi Network

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The membrane‐active peptide Pep19‐2.5 reduces harmful inflammation by blocking activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome at trans‐Golgi network membranes. By targeting key membrane interactions, Pep19‐2.5 suppresses inflammatory IL‐1β production and alleviates allergic airway inflammation in mice, leading to reduced immune cell infiltration and improved ...

The Scope of Application of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights Regarding National Climate Protection Law and its Potential for Climate Litigation

open access: yesUniversity of Vienna Law Review
European environmental and climate law has a notorious enforcement problem in the Member States. This is because many EU countries’ systems on legal standing are based on the infrigement of individual rights, whereas EU environmental law primarily ...

Livestock Multi‐Omics Integration: A Systematic Framework From Statistical Association to Causal Interpretation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A three‐tier livestock multi‐omics framework resolves four typical analytical pitfalls. Moving from statistical association through machine learning preprocessing to triple‐modal causal inference, it converts omics results into genomic selection and gene editing strategies to achieve One Health, underpinned by multi‐omics data, multimodal sequencing ...

SPICE‐Compatible Compact Modeling of Cuprate‐Based Memristors Across a Wide Temperature Range

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A physics‐guided compact model for YBCO memristors is introduced, incorporating carrier trapping, field‐induced detrapping, and a differential balance equation to describe their switching dynamics. The model is compared with experiments and implemented in LTspice, allowing realistic circuit‐level simulations.

In Between Ambition and Caution: Assessing the European Court of Human Rights’ Integration of Soft Law

open access: yesAge of Human Rights Journal
The European Court of Human Rights consistently and systematically integrates soft law instruments into its case law. However, the Court’s approach, and as a result its broader legitimacy, has been heavily scrutinized by member states.

Printed Flexible WO3‐Based Supercapacitors for Powering Low‐Powered Electronics in Wearable Devices and Energy Autonomous Temperature Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This study represents one of the systematic demonstrations of a screen‐printed, flexible WO3‐based supercapacitor, exhibiting excellent charge‐storage performance for powering wearable electronics. The device shows a specific capacitance of 3.44 F g−1 and an energy density of 0.302 Wh kg−1 at 0.05 mA, which enable to operate multiple wearable ...

Robustness of Half‐Metallicity and Spin‐Dependent Transport in Defective Co2HfSn and Co2ZrSn Heusler Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Point defects strongly influence the spin‐dependent electronic and transport properties of Co2HfSn and Co2ZrSn Heusler alloys. First‐principles calculations reveal that Co vacancies preserve half‐metallicity, while anti‐site and swap defects introduce minority‐spin states that reduce spin selectivity.
