2005On the basis of bibliographic data and our own experience, the contemporary concepts about the aetiology, the methods of laboratory diagnosis, the control and prophylaxis of European foulbrood disease are hereby outlined. Melissococcus plutoniusเป็นแบคทีเรียก่อโรคตัวอ่อนเน่ายูโรเปียนในตัวอ่อนของผึ้ง เมื่อเร็ว ๆ นี้ พบว่าสามารถจัดจำแนกโซเลตของ M. plutoniusออกได้เป็น 2 ชนิด คือ typical M. plutoniusและ atypical M. plutoniusโดยทั้ง 2 ไอโซเลตมีลักษณะที่แตกต่างกันทั้งทางด้าน phenotype และพันธุกรรม ซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นว่าทั้ง 2 ไอโซเลตควรมีกลไกในการก่อโรคที่แตกต่างกันและส่งผลกระทบต่
