One‐Dimensional Materials Supported in Two‐Dimensional Van der Waals Metal–Organic Frameworks with Optical Anisotropy Switching via Twist‐Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a molecular strategy to assemble one‐dimensional (1D) materials into two‐dimensional (2D) van der Waals metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Crystals of [FeX(pzX)(bpy)] (X = Cl, F) form anisotropic 2D layers that can be mechanically exfoliated into thin sheets.

An Optional European Contract Law Code: Advantages and Disadvantages [PDF]

open access: yes
Should the EU introduce an Optional European Contract Law Code and what should it look like? By applying economic theories of federalism and regulatory competition (legal federalism), it is shown why an Optional Code would be a very suitable legal ...

Topology and Material Optimization in Ultra‐Soft Magneto‐Active Structures: Making Advantage of Residual Anisotropies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Law Enforcement and Transition [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We present a simple model to analyze law enforcement problems in transition economies. Law enforcement implies coordination problems and multiplicity of equilibria due to a law abidnce and a fiscal externality.

Stable Protein‐Based G‐Quadruplex‐Derived Supramolecular Bioinks as Tunable ECM‐Mimetic Constructs Assembled by Combining Non‐Covalent and Covalent Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Harnessing the synergistic interplay of supramolecular self‐assembly, under macromolecular crowding conditions, and enzymatic‐mediated covalent crosslinking toward a stable protein‐based G‐quadruplex‐derived supramolecular bioink. This bioinspired strategy enables the biofabrication of complex and tunable ECM‐mimetic constructs, providing a platform ...

Means to combat tax evasion in the European Union [PDF]

open access: yes
Invoking the law in an abusive manner can aim to avoid the provisions of national law rather than illegitimate gains or wholly contrary to EU legislation.

Software Patent Law: United States and Europe Compared [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Software is a global business. Patents are increasingly the protection of choice; as a consequence, international software patent laws are of growing importance to software vendors.

Tough and Rapidly Relaxing Hydrogels Via Programmable Crosslink Kinetics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A kinetic programming strategy encodes supramolecular crosslink lifetimes in single polymer networks via stoichiometric control of fast and slow hostguest interactions. This enables predictable stress relaxation on biologically relevant timescales (0.1‐100 s) while maintaining exceptional toughness (up to 14,500 J m−2), resolving the long‐standing ...

The Function of a European Basic Law: a Question of Legitimacy [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper addresses the function of a European basic law. The author argues that if the basis of the original legitimising act of a basic law is weak, or even nonexisting, a need arises for succeeding or continuous legitimising acts.
