PREVALENCE OF ANTIBODY TO ALEUTIAN MINK DISEASE VIRUS IN EUROPEAN MINK (MUSTELA LUTREOLA) AND AMERICAN MINK (NEOVISON VISON) IN SPAIN

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 2016
The European mink (Mustela lutreola) has undergone a dramatic decline and is one of the most endangered mammals in the world. The invasive American mink (Neovison vison) is considered the main factor for this decline. However, the American mink's introduction and the subsequent ecological concurrence of the two species cannot solely explain the decline

An unusual case of spinal cord restricted mycobacteriosis in a European mink

Tierärztliche Praxis Ausgabe K: Kleintiere / Heimtiere, 2013
SummaryGranulomatous myelitis due to infection with Mycobacterium avium was diagnosed in a 4-year-old male neutered European mink (Mustela lutreola). The causative agent was detected by an acid-fast stain and further characterized by polymerase chain reaction and DNA sequencing of the PCR product.

TOXICITY OF SODIUM MONOFLUOROACETATE (COMPOUND 1080) TO MINK AND EUROPEAN FERRETS

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1986
Abstract The toxicity of sodium monofluoroacetate (Compound 1080) to mink (Mustela vison) and European ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) was evaluated through LC50 and reproduction tests. Subacute dietary exposure to Compound 1080 resulted in dose-dependent decreases in body weights and feed consumption in both species.

Invasion of the European Mink in Omsk Oblast

Russian Journal of Biological Invasions, 2018
The invasion of the European mink Mustela lutreola in Omsk oblast continued about 100 years; it was reported for the first time in 1886 and last in 1984. Changes in numbers of the European mink in Omsk oblast were in a direct weak relationship to abiotic factors, such as indicators of solar activity (W, Wolf number) and different moisture conditions ...

Food niche variation of European and American mink during the American mink invasion in north-eastern Belarus

Biological Invasions, 2009
Understanding processes allowing the co-existence of ecologically similar species is important but difficult to study in community ecology. Introductions of alien species are unplanned experiments allowing investigation of co-adaptation of both native and invasive species over a short period.

Reproductive parameters of critically endangered European mink (Mustela lutreola) in captivity

Animal Reproduction Science, 2017
Founding captive populations is often the last chance for saving endangered species from extinction. Ensuring successful reproduction is typically most critical for the maintenance of captive populations, with purposeful selection of individuals for breeding being one of the crucial aspects.

DENSITY DYNAMICS AND CHANGES IN HABITAT USE BY THE EUROPEAN MINK AND OTHER NATIVE MUSTELIDS IN CONNECTION WITH THE AMERICAN MINK EXPANSION IN BELARUS

Netherlands Journal of Zoology, 2001
Changes in spatial structure of the native riparian mustelid guild including the European mink Mustela lutreola, otter Lutra lutra, polecat M. putorius and stoat M. erminea in connection with the expansion of the American mink M. vison were analysed on the basis of a radiotracking and snowtracking study in the upper reaches of the Lovat river, NE ...

Activity pattern of European mink (Mustela lutreola) in Southwestern Europe

Zeitschrift für Jagdwissenschaft, 2002
We studied the activity budget and the circadian activity rhythm of European minks (Mustela lutreola) in an area of its western range in which American mink (M. vison) didn't occur. 5 males and 2 females were radiotracked for different time intervals over a year. Activity was determined by the variation of radio-signal strength.

Misleading interpretation of shifting baseline syndrome in the conservation of European mink

Biodiversity and Conservation, 2016
The European mink is a critically endangered mustelid with only three declining and isolated populations. Based on particular interpretation of genetic studies, the origin of SW population (France and Spain) and its conservation measures were recently questioned, and considered an example of managed relocation.
