Based on parsimony analyses of eight new SSU rDNA sequences and 24 homologous sequences retrieved from the DNA databases, we suggest a possible phylogenetic relationship of Elaphomycetales with Eurotiales and Onygenales. Our three includedElaphomyces sequences strongly cluster together (bootstrap value 100%) within a monophyletic group (100%) of ...

Cytological development of ascocarps in Emericellopsis is described. Intertwined hyphae initiate ascocarp primordia in the center of which enlarged ascogonial cells occur. Walls between the central cells disintegrate, resulting in an enlarged, multinucleate cell from which ascogenous cells emerge. Cell walls are reconstituted and repetitious croziers (

Symbiotic fungi living in plants as endophytes, and in lichens as endolichenic fungi, cause no apparent symptoms to their hosts. They are ubiquitous, ecologically important, hyperdiverse, and represent a rich source of secondary compounds for new pharmaceutical and biocontrol products.
