Elaphomyces readii is presented as a new species to science based on morphological and molecular evidence. The new species is characterized mainly by the pale brown rugose ascomata, yellowish to reddish brown hues in the proximity to the gleba, dark purple gleba and ascospores 20–57 µm in diameter.

Culturable fungi from urban soils in China II, with the description of 18 novel species in Ascomycota (Dothideomycetes, Eurotiomycetes, Leotiomycetes and Sordariomycetes) [PDF]
As China’s urbanisation continues to advance, more people are choosing to live in cities. However, this trend has a significant impact on the natural ecosystem. For instance, the accumulation of keratin-rich substrates in urban habitats has led to an increase in keratinophilic microbes.

Xerotolerant fungi in house dust: taxonomy of Spiromastix, Pseudospiromastix and Sigleria gen. nov. in Spiromastigaceae (Onygenales, Eurotiomycetes) [PDF]
During a global investigation of fungi in house dust, we isolated six novel arthroconidial fungi. Phylogenies from combined analysis of nuc rDNA 18S, 28S and internal transcribed spacers sequences demonstrated that these fungi and two species preserved in culture collections represent undescribed species of Spiromastigaceae, Onygenales.

A new species of <i>Fusichalara</i> (<i>Sclerococcaceae</i>, <i>Eurotiomycetes</i>) from Taiwan
Fusichalara pallida sp. nov. is described from decaying wood submerged in a freshwater stream in Taiwan. The phylogenetic relationship of Fusichalara species was sought among representative taxa from related fungal lineages, namely the Chaetosphaeriales and Glomerellalles in the Sordariomycetes, and various other ordinal groups in the Eurotiomycetes ...

The Eurotiomycete Apinisia graminicola as the causal agent of a leaf spot disease on the energy crop Miscanthus x giganteus in Northern Germany [PDF]
Miscanthus x giganteus is a fast growing, perennial energy crop for temperate climates. Because of its high annual biomass production rates and its characteristics as a low-input crop, an expansion of field cultivation can be anticipated to cover increasing demands for sustainable biomass production.

A new lineage of mazaediate fungi in the Eurotiomycetes: Cryptocaliciomycetidae subclass. nov., based on the new species Cryptocalicium blascoi and the revision of the ascoma evolution [PDF]
AbstractThe class Eurotiomycetes (Ascomycota, Pezizomycotina) comprises important fungi used for medical, agricultural, industrial and scientific purposes. Eurotiomycetes is a morphologically and ecologically diverse monophyletic group. Within the Eurotiomycetes, different ascoma morphologies are found including cleistothecia and perithecia but also ...

Estimation of Nucleotide Substitution Rates in Eurotiomycete Fungi [PDF]
In the entire fungal kingdom, only DNA substitution rates in the SSU rRNA gene (Berbee and Taylor 1993, 2001) and amino acid substitution rates (Heckman et al. 2001) have been estimated and used to date fungal divergences. However, these molecules are not sufficiently variable to date events at or below the genus level.

Amazonian diversity of Penicillium Link (Eurotiomycetes, Ascomycota) in the culture collection of the National Institute of Amazonian Research, with description of a new species [PDF]
ABSTRACT Penicillium Link is a widely known genus of ascomycetes, with a worldwide distribution, mainly known for its use in the food industry and production of mycotoxins. Considering the importance of culture collections as repositories of microbial biodiversity, we carried out a polyphasic taxonomic review of fungi of the genus Penicillium preserved
