Xerotolerant fungi in house dust: taxonomy of Spiromastix, Pseudospiromastix and Sigleria gen. nov. in Spiromastigaceae (Onygenales, Eurotiomycetes) [PDF]
During a global investigation of fungi in house dust, we isolated six novel arthroconidial fungi. Phylogenies from combined analysis of nuc rDNA 18S, 28S and internal transcribed spacers sequences demonstrated that these fungi and two species preserved in culture collections represent undescribed species of Spiromastigaceae, Onygenales.

Comparative metagenomic analysis reveals mechanisms for stress response in hypoliths from extreme hyperarid deserts [PDF]
Understanding microbial adaptation to environmental stressors is crucial for interpreting broader ecological patterns. In the most extreme hot and cold deserts, cryptic niche communities are thought to play key roles in ecosystem processes and represent ...

Penicillides from Penicillium and Talaromyces: Chemical Structures, Occurrence and Bioactivities
Penicillide is the founder product of a class of natural products of fungal origin. Although this compound and its analogues have been identified from taxonomically heterogeneous fungi, they are most frequently and typically reported from the species of ...

Fungal systematics can feel overwhelming given the vast species diversity within this kingdom, with numerous subgroups at every taxonomic rank. This often creates a disconnect between the undertsnidng of fungal taxonomic diversity and their societal relevance.

Taxonomy and phylogeny of the epiphytic sooty molds in family Metacapnodiaceae (class Eurotiomycetes, subclass Chaetothyriomycetidae) [PDF]
Metacapnodiaceae is one of several sooty mold families in Ascomycota. Its species grow as dense, black, spongy mats on the surfaces of plant leaves and twigs, typically in association with insect honeydew or plant leachates. Studying Metacapnodiaceae has

Birds, insects and air each host distinct fungal spore communities in a Japanese temperate forest; birds and insects act as selective vectors, while air provides maximal diversity. Our study highlights the importance of analysing multiple taxa to understand ecosystem‐level fungal spore dispersal and interactions.

Theoretical and empirical evidence indicates that biodiversity, species coexistence, and community stability are interconnected; however, the mechanisms underlying these associations remain poorly understood, particularly in aquatic ecosystems mediated by macrophytes. Here, we conducted a comprehensive investigation of microbial communities in bulk and

Abstract Irrigation and subsurface drainage (ISD) is used to improve physicochemical properties of soil; however, its effects on soil microorganism characteristics are not well understood, particularly in saline–alkaline soils. In this study, a 1‐year (2023–2024) field experiment was conducted in the Inner Mongolia to assess the effects of three ISD ...
