Deciphering the biosynthetic pathways of lichen acids
Summary Depsides and depsidones are polyketide‐derived lichen acids widely distributed in lichen thalli, yet the biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) responsible for their production remain poorly understood. To address this gap, we investigated the diversity and evolutionary relationships of polyketide BGCs in lichens.

Fungal Pathogen Activity and Stress‐Dependent Responses of Grapevine Wood to Esca and Drought
ABSTRACT Biotic and abiotic stresses alter the physiology of perennial plants, with consequences for fungal endophytes and disease expression. In grapevine, drought inhibits esca disease expression, but the underlying molecular interactions between the plant and fungi are unknown. We combined wood metatranscriptomics, metabolomics, and metabarcoding to

The Eurotiomycete Apinisia graminicola as the causal agent of a leaf spot disease on the energy crop Miscanthus x giganteus in Northern Germany [PDF]
Miscanthus x giganteus is a fast growing, perennial energy crop for temperate climates. Because of its high annual biomass production rates and its characteristics as a low-input crop, an expansion of field cultivation can be anticipated to cover increasing demands for sustainable biomass production.

Penicillides from Penicillium and Talaromyces: Chemical Structures, Occurrence and Bioactivities
Penicillide is the founder product of a class of natural products of fungal origin. Although this compound and its analogues have been identified from taxonomically heterogeneous fungi, they are most frequently and typically reported from the species of ...

Genomic and Ecological Flexibility Shape the Global Distribution of a Black Fungus
Graphical abstract illustrating the integration of ecological and genomic data to explain the global adaptation of the black fungus Elasticomyces elasticus. ABSTRACT Black fungi are among the most stress‐resistant organisms known, yet the genetic and ecological foundations of their extraordinary resilience remain poorly understood.

Spatial and temporal variation of fungal endophytic richness and diversity associated to the phyllosphere of olive cultivars [PDF]
Fungal endophytes are micro-organisms that colonize healthy plant tissues without causing disease symptoms. They are described as plant growth and disease resistance promoters and have shown antimicrobial activity.

Cyanobacteria are key components driving the formation and development of biological soil crusts in dryland ecosystems. Their community distribution differs significantly across stages of biocrust development. The presence of cyanobacteria influences variations in bacterial and fungal communities within biological soil crusts by regulating the ...
