Pharmacokinetic analysis on compatibility of Atractylodes macrocephala and Paeoniae radix herb pair ameliorates functional constipation model rats using microdialysis with ultra‐performance liquid chromatography

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The active ingredient of the drug determines the effect of the drug, and the compatibility affects the content of the active ingredient of the drug, which in turn affects the exertion of the efficacy. This study partly clarifies the rationality and compatibility of AM‐PR in the treatment of FC.

Refining the adriamycin‐induced focal segmental glomerulosclerosis mouse model to improve reproducibility and animal welfare

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study suggested the instability of Adriamycin (ADR) in aqueous solution as the main contributor to large ADR dose variations in literature of the ADR‐induced mouse model of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). We confirmed that freshly prepared ADR solution dosed at 10.5 mg/kg to be optimal in reliably producing FSGS pathology in BALB/c mice

Self‐gated, dynamic contrast‐enhanced magnetic resonance imaging with compressed‐sensing reconstruction for evaluating endothelial permeability in the aortic root of atherosclerotic mice

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 36, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Atherosclerotic plaques at high risk of causing cardiovascular events are characterized by a prominent inflammatory infiltrate accompanied by the presence of an extensive network of leaky microvessels. In this paper, we present a dynamic contrast‐enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE‐MRI) acquisition and compressed sensing reconstruction to aortic ...

Physician Assisted Dying as an Extension of Healing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The role of a physician is to provide care for those who seek their assistance. Lisa Yount attributes the most ancient statement about this activity to the Hippocratic Oath.

Dietary Qiwenghuangbo powder–enriched Limosilactobacillus reuteri protects the intestinal epithelium and alleviates inflammation via a strain‐specific mechanism

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Dietary Qiwenghuangbo powder improved growth performance and intestinal health of weaned piglets, as well as altered microbiota composition as significant enrichment of Limosilactobacillus reuteri. Furthermore, out of three isolated L. reuteri, two strains could alleviate pathogen infection and intestinal inflammation in the colitis models induced by ...

Influence of the arterial elastic component on the response to balloon angioplasty in femoral arteries of a healthy porcine model

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study evaluates the role of elastin in vascular response 28 days after balloon angioplasty using uncoated and paclitaxel‐coated balloons in a healthy porcine model. The results show higher elastin content in external femoral arteries, which is inversely correlated with vascular injury, inflammation, smooth muscle cell loss, proteoglycan and fibrin

Ceramic‐hydrogel composite as carrier for cold‐plasma reactive‐species: Safety and osteogenic capacity in vivo

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, Volume 20, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
In this study, a novel composite based on calcium phosphate ceramic and the plasma‐treated hydrogel is developed. With such a combination it is possible to supplement the excellent bone regenerative properties of calcium phosphates bone grafts with an anticancer agent, that is, the plasma‐treated hydrogel. While being selective toward OS cells in vitro,

Nuclear parcellation of pontine catecholaminergic and cholinergic neurons in gray parrots and pied crow brains

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Immunohistochemical staining for tyrosine hydroxylase reveals the neurons forming the locus coeruleus complex in the pontine region of the brain of the Congo gray parrot. The appearance and parcellation of the locus coeruleus complex in birds shows many similarities, but also differences to that observed in mammals.

The velar chord and dynamic integration of the gular valve in crocodylians

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Crocodilians have a unique gular valve that forms a seal between the oral cavity and the pharynx. The gular valve has traditionally been treated as two parts: a mobile ventral flap associated with the tongue and a fixed dorsal velum palatini. This work describes a connective tissue band, the velar chord, which functionally integrates the two parts of ...
