Euthyroid pretibial myxedema

Pretibial myxedema is typically associated with clinical hyperthyroidism, diffuse goiter, and ophthalmopathy in patients with Graves' disease. A case of biopsy-proved pretibial myxedema was encountered in a clinically euthyroid woman who had neither diffuse goiter nor exophthalmos.

Euthyroid Thyrotoxic Periodic Paralysis

Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis (TPP) is a dramatic complication of thyrotoxicosis usually seen in young men with untreated Graves' disease. We report the case of a 29-year-old active duty man with TPP attacks atypical in that they occurred during and after resolution of the hyperthyroidism.

A total of 75-85% of thyroid operations are performed on euthyroid goiters; 70% of them are bilateral. Ultrasonography is the most important preoperatively examination. But even lobes classified as normal should be inspected carefully during operations: nodules were found in so called "normal" lobes in 22%.
