Evacuating to 0.5–10 torr through long tubes

Abstract It is shown that established theory is not adequate for the prediction of pumping rates to vacua of 0.5–10 torr through lengths of 1–10 m of 8 mm piping. Experimental results in this range are reported, and empirical equations are derived for this prediction, which is of interest in the field of evacuated thermal insulation.
