Reproducibility: Evaluating the Evaluations

2021
Evaluation is at the heart of reproducibility in research, and the related but distinct concept of replicability. The difference between the two is whether the determination is based on the original author’s source code (replicability), or is independent of the code and based purely on a written description of the method (reproducibility).

Meta-evaluation: Evaluation of evaluations

Scientometrics, 1999
The A. first considers the antecedents of evaluation and the motivations for carrying it out. Turning then to the Framework Programme he reviews the history of its evaluation and the present approach. Evaluating evaluation measure stability

Proceedings of the 23rd annual international ACM SIGIR conference on Research and development in information retrieval, 2000
This paper presents a novel way of examining the accuracy of the evaluation measures commonly used in information retrieval experiments. It validates several of the rules-of-thumb experimenters use, such as the number of queries needed for a good experiment is at least 25 and 50 is better, while challenging other beliefs, such as the common evaluation ...

In Part I of this paper, we present a simple decision tree model borrowed from operations research to provide a conceptual framework for considering whether or not to commit such resources. In Part II, once the evaluation is carried out, we address the problem of evaluating the evaluation as a

An evaluation of evaluation

The Urban Review, 1974
The present evaluation procedures are useful if looked at as secondary data; if they are seen as broad and essentially complementary to the main business of schooling — student learning, and not as the primary outcome of schooling. When they are seen as direct or primary representations of the quality of programs, they are fraudulent and misleading ...

Evaluating evaluation

Narrative Inquiry, 2018
AbstractThis study examines a participant’s narrative in a focus group interview dealing with the evaluation of criminal justice policy – the impact of community policing training. However, rather than look at the narrative solely in the speech of the interviewee, I analyze the integration of speech and embodied conduct like gesture, gaze, and posture ...
