Proposal of a weighted index for segmentation evaluation
2014 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2014Although segmentation is an important process in image classification, selecting among different segmentors and their parameters is a difficult task. This work proposes a reference free index that returns the quality of segmentation, considering the classes that the user intends to classify. Considering a gaussian distribution, this index was tested to

EVALUATION OF STRENGTH AND DAMAGE INDEXES FOR BUILDINGS
2006In order to evaluate and improve seismic capacity of existing buildings seismic safety evaluation and retrofitting are very important tasks. Engineers make these evaluations with different methods, from too simple to too sophisticated ones. The presented method combines experimental data and engineering knowledge for evaluation of the seismic safety ...

AbstractThe process of subject indexing is difficult to describe and evaluate. The indexer provides guides to subjects reported to authors. The result is an index to subjects—a subject index. He selects subjects, paraphrases and chooses guides to them, and translates the guides into standard index language. The concept of “subject” is elusive.

Index vs. Navigation in XPath Evaluation
2006A well-known rule of thumb claims, it is better to scan than to use an index when more than 10% of the data are accessed. This rule was formulated for relational databases. But is it still valid for XML queries? In this paper we develop similar rules of thumb for XML queries by experimentally comparing different execution strategies, e.g.

A procedure for evaluating the reliability of a gingivitis index
Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 1986Abstract A methodology is presented for assessing the reliability of an ordinally‐scaled index and is illustrated by using data from a clinical trial in which gingival inflammation was assessed with the PMGI index, independently, by 5 examiners. One of the examiners was an experienced examiner, the others newly trained.
